José Angel Barberena
Congas, Percussion, Vocals
- Born in Holguin, Cuba, J.A. Barberena is one of the most talented percussion players of these days. Very early his family noticed his musical, and specificly his rhythmical talent - an heritage by his ancestors. He learned to play the drums as an autodidact and at the age of 10 he already played his instrument with virtuosity.
- After a few years working with different bands several musical styles he started studying music at the "Escuela Nacional de Arte".
- Because of a lack of instruments José founded a vocal group "Vocal en serio".
- The band was successful in Cuba; they gave a lot of concerts in hotels, in the cuban TV and had a performance for Fidel Castro and his family.
- In 2005 he moved to Germany and quickly got known as a talented and virtuos percussion player and drummer and got many offers to play in different bands.
- Because of his ability to play a set of percussion instruments at the same time he got his nick name "octopus".
- Since 2008 he is a member of "Salsamanía".
